If you use WDS you don't need to otherwise connect your access points to 
a fixed network.

I don't think WDS works together with 802.1X.

Another disadvantage of WDS is that all access points in a cloud will 
share the same channel, and frames will be "on the air" twice, thus 
limiting capacity and throughput.
