For backup purposes you can save vlan.dat from flash to a tftp server.
I've used this to upgrade several 3500s in the past.

	If you configure the switch to operate VTP in transparent mode
(vtp mode transparent), VLAN data will be saved with the config. If you
are relying on VTP to create VLAN's, forget about this :-(.
