[c-nsp] Spanning Tree Max VLAN's 35xx

Hello All:

I have a 3550-48 in the network that is a client in a VTP domain with 177
VLAN's, only 10 of which actually terminate on the 3550 itself. All the
other VLAN's are in the domain and passing on the uplink trunk ports.

I'm getting an error message about platform limits of 128 VLAN's. I thought
this was only an issue for locally terminated VLAN's but I must be wrong in
that assumption.

What is the best way to filter out VLAN's headed to the device? If I put
VLAN allow lists on the uplink ports does that do anything to limit the STP
instances or is all of that being carried by VTP to the switch regardless of
filters? What about VTP Pruning on the VTP server?

I apologize for not being able to just test the assumptions above; the
device is in a production network and I am leery of STP reconvergence (the
network is not RSTP enabled). Any help or insights would be greatly
appreciated.

Regards,

Mike
