Actually, it's 128 spanning tree instances in pVST and Rapid-
pVST modes, which (you're quite correct) isn't necessarily the
same as the number of VLANs.

In MSTP mode, however, only 65 instances are supported per switch
while the number of VLANs mapped to each instances is unlimited
(within the constraints of the number of VLAN IDs).

Actually, it's 1005.
