[c-nsp] OT: Open Source Network Monitor

We just finished trialling the OpManager system.. It's very good, no
question.

Our problem with it arrose in a feature that was lacking (understand
it's coming out in a month or so). With it's autodiscovery functions
(which you pretty much must use for it to work properly) it was picking
up hundreds of devices in subnets that we don't want to monitor (or
customers sometimes).

We had to manually "unmanage" hundreds of devices which was major time
consumption. Their new version is supposed to permit exception blocks
of IP's I understand though...

I would suggest checking out opmanager from advent net. They have a few
configurations ranging from free to $795 per user. The alerting is
quite good and config is not all that bad.
Another option is open groundwork. However, if you wish to have
the full supported professional version from them and not use the free
verion prepare for a bill of something like $15000 yearly.

Hey all,

I know this is way off topic but I would like to know any
software products you guys can recommend. We are looking for an open
source network monitor. I have tried OpenNMS but didn't like certain
parts of it so I'd like to hear what you all gotta say.
