[c-nsp] Dot1q trunk on 6509

I'm trying to setup a port on my 6509 on a WS-X6148-GE-TX to be a 802.1q
trunk.  But I try to add switchport trunk encap dot1q and it won't take
it.  Am I Configuring it incorrectly?
