[c-nsp] Session Border Controllers - Deployment

We have a pair of session border controllers from Jasomi that are being used to
protect a Metaswitch softswitch device.... my question is (in the Cisco world)
how a typical deployment of these works?

For example, if you were using Cisco boxes for SBC's, do they normally protect
the IP switch itself as a routed device?  We're hearing of deployments done in a
"bump on the wire" scenario so trying to find out which is most common and best
deployment method?
