switch>sh int g1/1 | in media
Full-duplex, 1000Mb/s, media type is SX
When it says "Unknown" then you are probably using an unsupported (which
doesn't support querying properly) or buggy one. (allthough I have seen
IOS do this with genuine cisco ones)
