we use MM 62.5 in our closet runs and run 10GB ethernet on top of it with
absolutely no problems..just make sure your fiber is good. We us SM between
buildings.

we didnt go to 50 due to the cost (termination costs more too) and we really
couldnt justify and performance increase or anything else for that matter.

Adam,
We just went through this "discussion". We had the company that manufactures
our cable sold us on the idea of 50 micron cable and we installed in it a
few locations.

Here is what we got of it-
1. Now need to actively, accurately distinguish and document between
50/62.5/SM at all locations.(aka even more work)
2. The Aqua fibers sure are pretty, but now we need to stock those too. (aka
more inventory)
3. Our local cable guys in Nevada seem not to stock as much 50 micron as
others (crunch time = more fun)
4. Single mode doesn't carry the nasty premium it used to. (So why not use
it?)

We decided since we can stick an LX Gbic within 7 feet of the other why not
just scrap all this multimode nonsense in the firstplace?

Ultimatly we landed on using SM for everything, and it reduced our cost and
complexity.
One type of gbic, mode conditioning patch cords are a thing of the past,
only one type of patch cord to stock.
Hopefully, someone on the list doesn't come up with the one reason we
shouldn't of:)

Hope that helps and feel free to email me offlist for any additional
details/questions you may have.

Hi,

We're about to roll out some 3560G's with GLC-SX-MM's, and I see they are
rated for use with both 62.5µm and 50µm multimode fiber. We're accustomed to
deploying 62.5µm fiber but have been learning that 50µm is probably more
forward-looking in terms of being able to support 10Gbps if we later upgrade
the 3560G's.

I assume the GLC-SX-MM should work fine with 50µm but just wanted to make
sure there aren't any reasons I'm not thinking of why we should stick with
62.5µm.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
adam
