Hi there..

We have a 6509 that is running very low on power. I'm ordering upgrades
to the power supplies but wondering about a few things and can't find
these answers on Cisco.com so far....

Power Output:

dis1-rtr-mb#sh power
system power redundancy mode = redundant
system power total = 1153.32 Watts (27.46 Amps @ 42V)
system power used = 1086.54 Watts (25.87 Amps @ 42V)
system power available = 66.78 Watts ( 1.59 Amps @ 42V)

The mode is redundant but if the power gets much lower, will the power
"split" between the power supplies giving up redundancy or what will the
outcome be?

We also have a very strange issue with a connection coming from a
GBIC-GigE connection to a remote 6503 where the connection link stays up
but the traffic stops passing. In the middle of this link is a Nortel
Optera Metro 3500 running OC-48 which is where we've been thinking the
problem is but so far haven't been able to find anything. In the
meantime I got looking at the power output and was wondering if it could
have any effect on this problem. For example, in the past 48 hours the
traffic has stopped passing on the GigE 5 times varying from 30 seconds
up to 20 minutes in length. During the outage, both sides of the GigE
link show up/up for interface and nothing is logged as being down hence
my reasoning for it possibly being the Nortel side of things....

I've swapped GBIC's, fiber jumper cables, ports/slots and we even
replaced the entire 6503 switch itself on the remote end ... no luck.
