Thanks to all for their input.
 
I think, in our case, we'll go with BGP accepting the default only. It kind of puts the responsibility of 'what happens after the default' into providers lap and is a fair test on health of BGP neighbours.

Everything that has been said up to now is mostly true. However, it is
down to the person with the problem to choose the solution that best
suit their environment.

Do not forget that when building a network many factors are taken into
consideration and the technical factor is just one amounts many.

I'm aware of that, buuut...

... this implies having a well-defined never-changing IP address on the
"other side" - which implies "something else that will break if you
have to renumber things" (which *will* happen).
