having now looked more closely, indeed the cat4k _does_ have the
hardware accelerated WCCP as well.

specifically: Catalyst 4500 chassis and linecards, 4948
fixed-configuration switch, and Catalyst 4000 family with IOS-based
Supervisor only, running 12.2(31)SG or above.

supported WCCP features include: WCCPv2, L2-redirect (hardware),
L2-return (hardware) and GRE return (software), MD5, mask assignment
(single mask per group), ingress redirection, mcast group

unsupported configurations: WCCPv1, GRE redirect (software), hash
assignment, egress redirection, redirect-list (ACL), mask assignment
(multiple masks per group), PBR and WCCP same interface, VRF and WCCP
same interface, Catalyst 4000 with non IOS-based Supervisor


in short: the config guide is indeed correct!
