Solarwinds Orion was rock solid supporting over 500 nodes. Installation
was ridiculously easy. I had it for a little over two years and will
highly recommend it.

I've evaluated these two products as potential solutions several times
over the last 3 years...everytime the result was "not ready for prime
time". I end up using open-source solutions (RANCID, Cacti, syslog-ng,
etc) because, although they require more time to tweak and get right, at
least they can get to that point of being right (and can support ALL of
my devices). With a black-box solution like Orion/Cirrus, my hands
would be tied and I'd be continually waiting for new versions of the
software.

Btw, the tools I mentioned have all been stacked on one server (well,
two if you count a shadow server for redundancy) with no impact on
performance - the tasks we're talking about really don't require all
that much power. I wouldn't consider breaking anything out until the
node count gets well above 100, but YMMV.

I maintain a midsize network with about 75 routers, switches, firewalls
in total. I'm currently using Kiwi Syslog for syslogs; MRTG for
bandwidth graphing; WhatsUp for SNMP traps; and Kiwi CatTools for config
management.
All these on different servers.

I was looking for an "all-in-one" product so I can place all these
functions on one server. After some research, I found Solarwinds Orion
and Cirrus.
>From my reading, it appears Solarwinds Orion can take over the syslog,
bandwidth graphs, and SNMP traps. The Solarwinds Cirrus would then take
over the config management. We don't mind paying for software as I know
that open source will always be a good recommendation by others.

The Solarwinds products are somewhat new to me so I wanted to know if I
am correct in saying that both these Solarwinds products can take over
these functions. Also, I'm open to hear any comments, thoughts,
opinions, etc about these products. Thanks in advance.
