As a rule-of-thumb:

- If it's a WIC with multiple revisions, only the latest will work in ISRs.
- If it's a PA with multiple revisions, only the latest will work in VXRs.
- If there's a '+' version of a card rather than a 'V2', both will work
but will either fail miserably interoperating with other vendors'
equipment, or unexpectedly bite you in the arse with performance
limitations.

Semi-tongue-in-cheek, but it's not so far from the truth...

In all seriousness, if you step through building your router in Software
Advisor (as if you were looking for an image to support your hardware),
it's pretty good about not letting you select cards which are never going
to work.
