I just confirmed this in lab with CWDM SFP. 

3750 was running 12.2(35)SE IOS, 12.2(25r)SEE3 bootloader and
CWDM SFP DOM worked.

7600 was running 12.2(33)SRA2, RP 12.2(17r)SX5 rommon, SP 8.5(1) rommon,
WS-X6724-SFP with 12.2(18r)S1 firmware and DOM did not work.

Sigh, I've always thought that my CWDM SFP DOM didn't work, because
they're non-cisco :)
