I think you meant to s/learn how it works/learn how Cisco does autoneg/. 
  As other vendors have demonstrated, it's quite functional to 
_participate_ in autoneg with the settings you're capable of and/or are 
hard-set.

Contrary to popular belief, Cisco != world.
