I agree, but with one reservation - RANCID's default archiving of the
router config is oriented towards documenting changes, rather than
providing a backup of the config. For example, passwords are by default
stripped out (to avoid accidentally emailing them toyou with the change
notices), and some subtle changes are applied to the config (some lines
are sorted, some have sequence numbers stripped, etc.).
Once you've installed RANCID, you can set up a second archive of
the raw config files for "bare-metal" recovery.
