May be but then you will end up with your 7200s acting as a giant 
bottleneck ..........
I almost agree with Kristian , the 7600s is pretty much the only option , 
within Cisco of course ......

Anyone have another opinion

What about a 2960 switch with a gig trunk up to the 7200s?  If it's just 
ports you need...

7600 with sup32 could work quite well, though mind
the TCAM - it's quite small on the Sup32 and won't
do for a full table. Cheap 10/100 cards as well.

GSR is really a backbone router and not so well
suited for this type of tasks.
