The The A model has larger per port buffers, and while the avail QoS
queues are the same (IIRC) the non-A version can only set QoS in sets of
12 instead of per port.
Based on my in use compare between the A and non A versions.
If you have lots of GigE connected desktops (very low duty cycle,
bursty) it really does not matter.
If you are feeding network devices, or high-perf servers with a 200+
Mbit base rate and regular bursts up to full link rate the buffer is a
very good thing.
And of course, the non A is just as much or in some cases more for a
lesser blade.
Our spec for classic 6500 series systems (SUP2 based) is 6148A-GE-TX for
copper blades and 6516A for gbic based.
Sup720 systems are 6704 and 6748 10GE and Gbit SFP, w/ the DFC cards.
