Well, MPLS, GRE in hardware, ERSPAN, service modules, redundant
supervisors, and Netflow Data Export comes to mind as some of the
things the 4948 won't do.

Also, the 6500 (even with a Sup32) will do more VLANs, more
spanning trees, more SVIs, more MAC addresses etc.

PS: The 4948 can do IPv6, but only in software.
