If that's the goal, why not price it into the product and tell them the 
install is free?

The cost of installation must be a very small percentage of the total 
cost, it's not like price is a primary factor for the target market. Then, 
not only do you guarantee the customer's satisfaction, you remove the 
issue of some customers feeling forced to buy something they aren't 
completely sure they need and replace it with appreciation.

Basically, if it's "mandatory", why make it a line item...
