Have you seen Cisco's performance spec sheet? Once of their better
references for rough platform performance estimation.

A RSP8 is a touch faster than a 720x/NPE400, but also the 7500-series
distributed switching capability will offload the CPU when it doesn't
have to deal with forwarding, leaving more cycles for pure software
processes.
