the intent with N7010 was to have front-to-back cooling with the fabrics and PSUs in the rear as it left the front entirely for the data cabling.
there was also a desire from a h/w development standpoint to use common equipment (e.g. PSUs) across the N7K portfolio range.
PSUs and fabrics in the rear drove the depth of N7010.

from a design standpoint what would you prefer?
 - less common equipment across different chassis sizes,
 - a switch that is 4RU or 5RU higher?
   (think about the size of the PSU, would you be prepared to have another 4RU or 5RU on the overall size of the switch?)

we know that some folks want to be able to use it in environments without that depth and on two-post racks too.
talk to your cisco account team about what options exist.

in either case agree its not fun installing one on your own. :)
