[c-nsp] Basic Etherchannel Question

Just wondering what the general consensus was on hard coding vs. negotiating
etherchannels. I've always hard coded them and viewed the negotiation
protocols as a possible point of failure. I was thinking it may be a way to
diagnose switchport failures that do not cause the link to go down.
Assuming the contol plane frames will not be sent if the data path goes
unavailable, it seems like it could be a good way to verify the health of
the member links. THoughts?
