Yes. MVPN encapsulates customer multicast in GRE-over-provider 
multicast, so you'll need PIM for that to flow.

I would generally recommend sparse-mode. But you can run e.g. PIM-SSM in 
the provider core. All that matters is that the PEs can send multicast 
to each other.
