I think it's fair to say longer lookups would be slower.  The people who obsess over 40-byte packets, et al are a bit extreme these days as well IMHO.  There's a lot of tradeoffs made in platform design, expecting a 128-bit lookup to take longer than a 32-bit is a reasonable expectation, perhaps until the platforms are 128-bit vs 64-bit native :)
