Well, I need to attach these devices to the access ports on the edge of
the network. For a VPLS service I would need to privison an MPLS enabled
VLAN on the access layer, wouldn't I? That seems rather complicated
though this might just be my inexperience saying that.

Good point. Jumbo frames wouldn't be a problem, all devices in the
varios paths accept at least 2000 bytes frames.
