Garry could you show output of sh cef fib? 

Im also looking to do same as Nick but currently on 8gb memory.

We still have several 1001 (will be migrating soon due to 10G requirements) running happily as border routers, one has something like 300-400 BGP links (v4+v6), of those two full feeds (v4 and v6; as well as dual internal links with additional external full feeds), all of that on 8G of memory ... with about 2.5G still free (out of the 4G the system leaves for actually running):
