[cisco-voip] Upgrading CallManager to 4.X

I'm in the same situation as both of you. My concern is what is posted
on Cisco CallManager Compatiblity Matrix.
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_callmg/ccmcomp.h
tm
According to this, 3.3(3) can only upgrade to 4.0(1). What confuses me
is to upgrade to 4.0(2a), it's under "Additional Tested Upgrades".
Could someone who is from Cisco or who has done these upgrades explain
what path we 3.3(3) users must do to get to 4.0(x) and 4.1?
Thanks,
Oliver

We'll be looking at upgrading from 3.3(3)sr4a to 4.1(2) as well. I'm
eager to heare from anyone that has done something similar.
>From what I've gathered, we'll have to be more worried about what
happens after the upgrade then the actual upgrade itself. By this I mean
the changes that come along with v4.x. For example, directory numbers
are now it's own object, and deleting a phone does not delete the
directory numbers associated with that phone -> that's an administration
change that has to take place.. Another example is that voicemail ports
are handled differently and there are steps to take before and after the
upgrade to ensure voicemail access works properly. Those are just two
that I've noticed - changes to the phone , animated icons etc, will also
have to be properly advertised to clients.
Since each version lists the 'new features' seperately, it will be
important to become familiar with the release notes for 4.0(1), 4.0(2)
and 4.1(2).
And of course, testing things in a test environment is key.

Currently have a Pub and Sub running 3.3.3SR4a
I'm replacing the Publisher with a more redundant server and
want to
upgrade to 4.X while I'm taking the downtime.
Has anyone performed this upgrade. Are there any GOTCHAS! I
should be
looking for?
The instructions are basically:
1) Backup the server, uninstall CAR
2) Build the new server, Install 3.3
3) Restore the config from the old server
4) Upgrade to 4.X
Which version should I be aiming for. I've seen 4.0X as well as
4.1X
Can anyone share their experiences with the group?
Thanks in advance,
-=Vandy=-
