[cisco-voip] 7970 miracles

Peter,

First, check and see what version of firmware the 7970's are running, there
is a new firmware load, only a week or two old, that finally fixes some of
the issues the 7970 has. This new load seems to finally provide some
stability in using XML services on the phone.

1) I am not sure if you can create a scrolling news ticker, I think you have
to put it under the services menu or possibly use the idle url.

2) You can replace the background image of the 7970. Instructions are here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_administration_
guide_chapter09186a00801d66b9.html

3) Berbee is the only free service that I am aware of, you could write your
own services. Check out the Cisco IP Phone Services SDK for examples.

4) Depending on what version of CallManager you are running, you have two
ways to handle more speed dials. 1) Setup the Personal Directory service and
the Fast Dials service. You setup contacts/phone numbers in PD and then
assign the contacts as Fast Dials. You access the Fast Dials from the
services menu. 2) Abbreviated Dialing is a new feature in CCM 4.0. With
abbrivated dialing you setup additional speed dials via the CCMUser page,
these speed dials are not associated with a hard button, they are assigned
an index number. To access the speed dials, on the ip phone, press the
AbbrDial softkey and then enter the index number of the speed dial.

5) Check CCO for instructions on configuring Personal Directory and Fast
Dials for the specific version of CCM you are running.

6) The 7970's have some issues with Date and Time. Verify you have a newer
phone firmware load and male sure you are not using the CMLocal timezone.
Setup a specific timezone in the Date/Time zone section of CCM.

Subject: [cisco-voip] 7970 miracles

All,

My Battalion Commander is asking me to preform some miracles in design
for 7970 phones here in Iraq. Some of you may have done some of these things
before so, I would appreciate any help I can get. The following are ideas
that the good idea fairy placed in his mind:

He would like these for 7970s......
Scrolling news ticker feed from CCN or some other well know news network
He wants me to get rid of the shaded area associated with bottons used
that goes across the whole screen
Does anyone know of a better service than berbee to get services
from...berbee CNN keeps freezing up on 7970s
Local news ticker server for classified phone VoIP network
Extended speed dial buttons without an external device....are the
external 14 button speed dial devices used for 7960s compatablie with 7970s?
Also, I am having problems getting the Fast dial services working. Not
familiar with PAD...
Anyone ever expirience promblems with 7970s updating thier date/time?

I am in the military so, I have little expirience but we have the
resources smart people to learn. We all have about 5 months VoIP expirience
now. I would appreciate any of the audiences knowledge on this. I know some
of these problems are probably elementary and some are not possible. Thanks
for anything you can give.
