The port role-type would be switch if you are connecting to a router so VLANs get passed from my last reading of the catex 500 docs. There is not a way to specify what VLANs belong to a trunk port on the express also from my reading of the document so you get all VLANs. I do not have one to play with at the moment so am strictly going off of the docs.
The server should be a server role port type from my understanding.
This was meant to be a low-price/simplistic switch without many features to play with.

Subject: [cisco-voip] Catalyst Express 500
Hi,
I have a cisco router configured for dot1q trunking [data vlan (VLAN1) + voice vlan(VLAN2)] on fastethernet0/0 interface. This interface is going to connect to a switchport in the catex500. which role should I assign in the catex500 config? router? switch?
How much as I try different roles I never manage to see the attribution of more than one vlan in the trunk between the switch and the router. I think the switch should recognize the 802.1Q configuration on the router side. Don't know what else to try.
In this same switch I am going to connect a CCM. Once again which role should be assigned to it? ip phone + desktop? server? other?
thanks in advance
regards
