[cisco-voip] CCM 4.X and RAM

I made this comment earlier in one of my posts...

"The whole 2gig requirement for CCM 4.X was caused by the idiots at the
SBC VoIP Call Center in Chicago."

*

This was meant to be a joke. The 2 gig requirement is real and there is
a Cisco field notice on it. I used to work at that call center and they
were instrumental in identifying this fact with Cisco. There are a bunch
of real sharp guys/gals over there.

You can get away with 1G of ram with 4.0 on small deployments but if you
have problems it won't be supported by Cisco.

Thanks,

Jason Wydra

Thanks. I'm doing an upgrade tonight and they only have 1 gig. They only
have 200 phones so I don't expect too much of an issue. They'll be
upgrading the memory at a later date. The whole 2gig requirement for CCM
4.X was caused by the idiots at the SBC VoIP Call Center in Chicago. :-)

I performed the upgrade of 4.1(3) on CallManager servers with only 1 gig
of RAM in production. We didn't have any issues (about 400 devices)
with the upgrade and it wasn't until later where the 2 Gig memory
requirements showed up in the Cisco docs. It did seem that the
CallManager servers ran a bit sluggish but after we upgraded the memory
this seemed to go away. This could just be Windows since we didn't have
any reported IP Telephony issues and we ran for a good four to five
months before adding memory.

I don't know about install, but upgrade worked just fine...... but that
was before they said you needed 2 gigs. Maybe they are checking now.

I know you are supposed to have at least 2gig of RAM with 4.X but will
CallManager let you install if you only have 1gig? Or will it fail?
