I'd replied to Vincent privately about my SQL solutions, but you raise a
good point that I did not address.
The CDR reporting I typically do is troubleshooting certain calls or a
monthly dip into the database to reconcile an LD bill and split it up to
the branches involved, so I'm not really cranking very hard on the live
database. Even so, sometimes, I have either been looking for all calls
from a number or all calls by a user (or simply provided a query that
returned many more records than expected) and those queries have not
resulted in any reported system impact.
That having been said, if your reporting needs are very intense at all,
you should probably do a daily sync (during a low traffic time, if
possible) to a separate database server and do your intense reporting on
*that* database.
