[cisco-voip] Need SIP trunk to PSTN

it appears a registrar is only necessary if you do not know exactly
where your destination is.

Example: if you wanted to call wes at cisco.com. I could be at home, in
the airport, etc. My client registers to a server and you send your
invite to that server (cisco.com). The depending if you use a
registrar, redirect, or proxy server it either redirects the client
to communicate directly to my endpoint or proxies and actively
participates in call signaling.

Mark,

I've been looking into basic SIP configuration on a 2801 Gw currently
running an H.323 configuration.
Do you know if a SIP registrar and/or redirect server is required for a
functional configuration?

I'm trying to find my way through getting a SIP based telephony app
working through our local gateway and I don't have a SIP server
available.

Scott,

We're testing a SIP trunk from i3 Networks which I believe is a
reseller for L3. Their number is 832.529.3481

Good luck
