[cisco-voip] TFTP/DHCP 'memory' on IP phones and Communicator?

Can anyone explain (briefly is fine) the whole concept of how a phone continues to operate when it can't connect to the TFTP/DHCP server after at least one successful configuration?

I had always knew that in some way or another the DHCP settings stuck, but I didn't think it was the same with TFTP. I was racking my head on why changes weren't being applied to an IPC session, and I only stumbled on the status screen to see TFTP failures.

Anyways, just looking for some background.
