[cisco-voip] extending AD for unity 4.0.5

Jason:
Now that you mentioned it, you're right. If things did go wrong with
the schema update, all I can think of is demoting that DC if it was set
to not replicate with other DCs.

There is a Microsoft whitepaper on AD Backup/Recovery. I can't see
undoing Schema changes by hand...nor can I really see doing a AD
Restore!

I'll take a stab at this one in case Selt9 does not reply. By making
changes on one domain controller and preventing it from replicating it's
changes to other domain controllers gives you the ability to
troubleshoot the problem on one domain controller. If there was a
problem and it replicated to all DCs, then you just affected your whole
Active Directory. If you islote the problem on just one DC, this gives
you a chance/time to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

I hope this helps.

we have done this and it is working without a problem.
we blocked all comunications between shema master and other nodes, then
we extended shema via cisco tool (ad....exe) on Unity DVD, checked if
master shema is extended and then unblock links to other nodes in domain
(DCs).
Immediately after it, we continued with Unity/AD integration without
waiting any longer because you can wait as long as you want but you'll
never know... :):):) ok, you will know, but we had about 50 DCs... so
you should check everyone and that what i meant ...you'll never know
(untill you check all) :)... and who will do that? ;)

now, seriously, the basic thing is to have functional replications going
on without a problems before you update shema on the master and when you
unblock communication with other DCs, master will replicate when the
time comes...
so, in this scenario, the risk is the same as with "7 days waiting"...

selt
