I was there in March as well. The exhibition floor is good. Some of
the forums are good. If cisco does their off-agenda sessions again,
that is worth the time.
My plan this year is to fly in Monday and fly out Wednesday night. I
don't think the full Sunday through Thursday is worth it, if your
everyday life involves cisco products exclusively.

I went to Voice Con in March. As mentioned it gives you a broader view
from other players in the VoIP market. I was actually surprised
(because I don't know any better) by the number of people that were
buzzing around the Avaya booth.
I have to say that I like the workshops at CIPTUG better because they
are more specific to things I am working with on a daily basis. The
workshops at VoiceCon for me were average. The highlight of the
conference was the keynote by Cisco CEO John Chambers. The guy is a
phenomenal speaker and can really work a room. In contrast Avaya's
FORMER CEO, Don Peterson, gave a keynote the following day that was not
quite as inspiring. He did however have one funny slide during his
keynote ( Cisco 7960 IP phone, SIP load - Avaya Logo on the screen ).
His comment was if this can happen then anything is possible.
I just googled "Avaya CEO" and saw that he stepped down in July 2006
because of profits are down from last year. See below:
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2006/072506-avaya-ceo-steps.html
The bottom line is that I didn't really come away with much from
Voicecon that would help on a daily basis but I did get a better sense
of the companies in the market place. It may be a conference to try
once for yourself but I do not plan on going back just yet.
Carlos

My director is trying to get approval for us to go this year. I'm
interested in going to see what its all about, never been before. Bigger
event, not cisco-centric compared to ciptug.
