[cisco-voip] Setting up local DSP resources on 2821

How does the gateway allocate DSP resources on a 2821 for voice
termination? I'm curious because I'm assigning dsp resources for
transcoding and conferencing and I am wondering if it is possible to
assign too many sessions to the dspfarm profiles so that there are no
longer and dsp resources for voice termination. I have two onboard
pvdm2-32.

Thanks,
Jason

No problem. You will only see active DSP's, unless the DSP's have been
allocated (to a dsp profile or to and dso/fxo port) you will not see
them in the output.

I have a 2821 with 2x PVDM2-32 and see the same output you are
describing. "Show voice dsp detailed" will show you all of your DSP's.

Thanks, just curious because if I look at active dsp channels it shows
me 24, even though I have two 32 channel PVDM modules. Can you explain
the difference? I guess I would expect to see 64 available channels.
It's most likely a matter of me not understanding the PVDMs well enough.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason -

Voice-card 0 just refers to the PVDM resources on the motherboard.
Voice-card 1 would be a network module populated with PVDM's.

One more thing with the following....

voice-card 0
 dspfarm
 dsp services dspfarm

If I run a show diag, I see two PVDM2-32 modules. One is slot 0 and the
other is slot 1. Does the voice-card command above denote the actual
slot number of the PVDM? Reason I ask is because I want the PVDM in slot
0 to do transcoding and the PVDM in slot 1 to do conferencing. When I
try to configure the following I get this:

ft-worth(config)#voice-card 1
                            ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

ft-worth(config)#voice-card ?
  <0-2> Voice interface slot #

ft-worth(config)#voice-card

Jason

You need it all... confusing at first but after you set it up a couple
times it's not so bad.

Makes me miss the old NM-HDV config :-/
