[cisco-voip] 4.1(3) to 5.X Appliance Servers

Is IPCCx 4.5 based on 3.5 or something? I thought IPCCx 4.5 was based
on 4.0 just without HA. Am I wrong?

Unity is 4.2(1) with TSP 8.1(3)

There is no call center at that site...

I will not upgrade a customer who is running IPCC 4.0 to CCM5... I think
IPCC 4.5 is a step backwards (I really like the features and config for
4.0).

Haven't run into any problems, but then again, they aren't doing
anything that interesting... (just phones and voicemail...)

Personally, I don't think there is anything that special about CCM5 for
most customers... though it is seriously looking like Cisco is forcing
people to the 5.x train (it looks like it is getting harder and harder
to order the 4.2 part numbers...)

Once Presence is fully realized with the Cisco Unified Client, it might
get very interesting, but at the moment, it is just something new and
strange to play with.

So far it has been a week since 5.1.1 went live and I haven't heard a
word from them.

Your running 5.1.1a live now? What differences have your end users
notices going from 4.1 to 5.1?

Are you running IPCCx? What version of Unity?

Please explain, licensing "easy as hell".

Thanks

Scott

PS. I would like to upgrade March.

But there is no way to apply a DMA to an already built CCM5 box...
AFAIK...

Actually, what we did was we got new servers for CCM5 (the old ones
sucked a lot), and we installed CCM4.1(3)sr3b on one of them.

We then restored our backup to it and ran DMA on that server, got the
file and offloaded it to an FTP server.

We then blew the box away with CCM5.0(4), restored the DMA during the
install, got it licensed (easy as hell), and upgraded it to 5.1(1).

We then played with it for a few days, made sure everything migrated
correctly (it did), all the while still running 4.1 live...

Then, in a flash (actually one night), we changed the DHCP scope to
point to the new Pub (we also built the two subs during this period),
and we changed the call agent on the MGCP gateways.

Once we were sure the gateways were up and registered, we started
rebooting phones and making test calls... everything worked fine.

We killed the old system a few days later.

So, we never ran DMA on the live CCM pub...

Yes and no...

Yes because you can very much run DMA on your existing server and
install CM 5 on your new server. There is no such thing as a pre-
built CM 5 box however. Just like with previous versions of CM the
hostname and IP address are set during OS install and when upgrading
(currently) you cannot change the hostname or IP address of the
server or the migration fails. I believe 5.1 new installs will
allow you to change hostname/ip address during the install but don't
quote me on that :)

The 4.1 migration to 5.x is very similar to the 3.2 upgrade to 3.3 or
later. You take the backup of the old version with the specific
backup version (DMA in this case). Then you do the install on the
new server and tell it you are upgrading. During the CM install it
will ask for the backup file and it will import the data at that
time. The only time you can migrate your 4.1 data is during the CM
install. The cool thing now though is instead of a set of OS disks
and a set of CM disks you have one DVD that installs the OS and
CallManager at the same time.

So I can run the DMA on the old Publisher and apply it to the pre

Same idea as upgrading a box. You run the utility to backup your 4.1
install and restore to the new box. I can't remember the utility off
hand.

Sorry, what I actually meant was, servers that are pre built with
Call Manager already installed, not one where we will install Call
Manager ourselves.

All CM 5.x servers are Appliances. So I think you need to be looking
at upgrading.

We are soon going to be going to 5.X and we will more than likely be
getting the appliance servers, can anyone point me in the direction
of documentation for upgrading to appliance models, the only
documentation I can find it for installing or upgrading another box.
