Ed,

The 7960 is already limited on features compared to the 7941/61.
Generally speaking, projects in the works now and going forward do
not target the 7960 phones.

Has cisco ever indicated when they might EOS the 7960's? My concern
with the 7960s is future compatilibity with newer basic features.. if
I deploy 200 more sets next month and use 7960's, will I be replacing
3/4 of them in 2 years anyway with 7961's? Seems like they were
barely able to squeeze BLF's onto them for CCM5.

I can imagine Lelio's head popping if they decided to let you forward
non-primary lines from the phone but only on the 7961 and up ;)

The latest IP Phone Services SDK doesn't seem to mention the 7961/7941,
but talks about the 7940/7960, 7905/12, and 7970.

Is the 7961/41 more similar to the 7970 - due to its operating
system/firmware - than the 7960, at least in the area of IP phone
services?

There seem to be many inconsistencies (thanks Lelio for pointing some
out) between the 7960 and 7961, making it difficult to write phone
services that work the same for both models. Need more documentation!

Bill

PS: for anyone thinking of going to 7961 for its bells and whistles,
instead of purchasing 7960 (still available!) - don't rush into it. In
our experience the 7960 is rock solid and outperforms the 7961. It's
"faster" (boot time, response time, dialing time) and practically bug
free.
