Hi there,
Looks like I've got a dead 7970 due to firmware updates and such done with DST patching.
The phone doesn't get to point where it is requesting IP address, etc and the buttons don't respond. Have tried the backup phone image by powering up the phone with handset offhook , and the factory default key sequences and phone is doing same thing all the time. The settings button on the phone itself doesn't bring up a menu since it is not getting that far.
The phone displays the cisco logo briefly and speaker button lights up briefly , and up in the corner of LCD is a checkbox that becomes a circle after awhile, and this cycles and cycles.
I have defaulted the switchport configuration and put it back to a real basic config. Access mode and set access vlan to the voice VLAN and set spanning tree portfast. Other phones on the same switch in same VLAN are working fine and getting DHCP renewals fine.
CDP info from switch shows the phone has a 7.0.3 image and CDP reports it as a Cisco 7970 phone but sometimes shows it as a Cisco PD while it is cycling through whatever it is trying to do.
Any other ideas on how to get this back up? The phones warranty is expired and the support contract on it ended a few months ago so haven't been able to open a RMA on it. Trying to get client to get an active contract on the phone again.
Thanks, Erick
