[cisco-voip] Cannot update OS on VM machine

Maybe I'm going about this all wrong but I can't seem to upgrade a CCM
OS beyond 2000.2.7sr8.
I followed the instructions and was able to create a VM using 2.7 disks.
I updated to 2.7sr8 but now want to bring the OS up to the 2000.4.4 I am
running on our production servers.
I have tried both 2000.4.4a and 2000.4.3a but right after it finishes
reading the contents of the package it performs an "integrity check" and
errors out with this message:
"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are
attempting to run has been corrupted. Please
Obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."
I am running these files within the machine itself and have copied them
multiple times even pulled them off and ran them on a regular host OS
and they extract fine.
Has anyone run across this, or should I not even be using the upgrades
from Cisco?
