[cisco-voip] SIP trunk CUCM 7

Any bugs/PERS requests to have CUCM provide the same features as a CUBE? Seems funny for small business that wants a SIP trunk to spend so much money on a router doing CUBE. I believe it’s a good investment for large business or corporations to secure the PBX and make CUBE man in the middle. But for small company with 50-100 handsets seems like buying a CUBE+ licenses is financial punishment from Bells to stick with T1s (plus I thought Asterisk does SIP trunks natively).
Mostly I’m hearing H323 from CallManager to CUBE and SIP from CUBE to ITSP.
Is the Avaya/Nortel like CallManager, you need something in front of it?
In SIP is DTMF still a problem with all the different standards? Or did I understand if you have all 79x2s you should be fine.

A list troll kindly clarified for me:
CM will do authentication on a SIP trunk if configured with the appropriate profile. CM sends a message, receives a challange in response, and upon matching the realm will provide authentication. However CM will not send REGISTER message to register a SIP trunk. Most providers require registration.

CM supports a native SIP trunk. However, that trunk does not offer any means of providing authentication to the provider. That and the need to focus all ip traffic through a single address (Border Element) are reasons most people put a CUBE between CM and the SIP provider.

I haven’t had a chance to explore CUCM 7 yet, but I think you will need a back to back user agent like CUBE or Ingate’s SIPerator.
