No, check that doc carefully, you don't need to upgrade to UC 2.x.
Both of the migration methods support going directly from 1.2 to 7.x.
Some confusion might be coming from the one tool named 'Connection 1.x
to 2.x Migration Export Tool', the data exported from that can also be
imported to 7.x. You are probably better off using COBRAS, however, as
it pulls much more information, including call handlers, user
greetings, etc.
