HI, i've upgraded from CCM 4.1.3 to CUCM 6.0.1, and new it is time again to upgrade from 6.0.1 to 6.1, 2.5 Gb upgrade :O))
The Core Linux is Red Hat Enterprise, but is Cisco Customized, so root user is disabled, and a only cisco standard command are admitted in command shell
You can Upgrade on the same server but i must know that the installation format the harddrive, and the installation is veru long.
Post installation task are needed for tuning little difference such, IPMA, Attendant Consolle an so on...
If you can, use different new hardware....or, instead you can Convert real CCM 4.2 to virtual, switch the phone to virtual machine, and install the CUCM 6.x to the real machine....
Good Luck
