[cisco-voip] overhead paging vs ip phones

The IPsession server has as part of its zone paging configuration
options, an overhead paging dialogue box where you specify the no. of
the FXO/FXS port plus any additional digits needed for specifying an
overhead paging zone. IPcelerate has integrated with companies like
Bogen, Raulands, Dukane, and Valcom. Do you have an FXO/FXS port
available to connect to the analog input of the paging controller?

Can anyone comment on how IPCelerate interfaces with Bogen zone paging
controllers for example? If I setup zones on the Bogen, can the
IPCelerate call in and punch in the zone as well? I thought all that
DTMF and pauses was not supported?

We're currently using IPCelerate's IPsession product for paging
as well. It's worked quite well, and they've always been extremely
helpful with any support we needed.

At Suffolk CC on Long Island, we will be setting up a prototype
system based on IPCelerate's IPSession/Studio servers. We already have a
paging zone system in operation using IPCelerate equipment. The
prototype will be extending it to public spaces where phones don't exist
or are not loud enough.

I'm just wondering what people think about overhead paging. I
know it's old school, but I like it's independance from the
phone/network system in the event of an emergency. Plus, it's much
cheaper considering the phones you have to buy and licence and the
paging software you have to buy/licence as well. Granted it gives you
two way communication if you need it and you can use the phone for other
things as well, but in a tight budget situation, I'm thinking over head
paging is the way to go.

I'm also guessing a real speaker is going to be louder and
clearer than an IP phone speaker.
