[cisco-voip] Low voicemail volume

I'd try messing around with the gain on the voice ports. I know you said
that things sound ok on IP Phone calls, but, IP phones have a lot more
range than Unity (at least by default). What's the volume set to on
those phones?

In any case, the problem does indeed -have- to be on the gateway, unless
the calls that get forwarded to Unity are going through different
transcoders/MTPs than the IP phone calls. Things to keep in mind:

1. Assuming there aren't additional transcoders/MTPs after the gateway,
there's nothing that can happen to the audio in the network to make it
quieter, it's a packet, it either gets there or it doesn't.

2. Unity can't tell what site a call is coming from, it can't treat them
differently.

3. Unity does have automatic gain control, to boost low audio. You can
take a look at the audio troubleshooting guide for Unity on CCO for
details on what the settings are and what they do. The defaults are
pretty reasonable, though, so if they're not cutting it, I'd suspect
very low audio.

4. You can end the guessing about audio levels by just getting a packet
capture. Get a capture of a call through this gateway to an IP phone and
one to Unity. Run them through Wireshark and have it spit out the audio.
Only catch is, if you're using 729, you'll need to have that codec
installed on your PC to playback.
