Symptoms:
The 7970 IP Phone will be stuck at the Cisco Logo screen or otherwise be
locked up.
Conditions:
(
The date is January 1st, 2004
-or-
The date is on or after February 29, 2004
-or-

)
-and-

)
Workaround:
Upgrade 7970 to Phone Load 8.x.

All base CM releases include fixed phone load versions except CM4.1(3):

5.1(3) fixed
5.1(2) fixed
5.0(4) fixed
4.2(3) fixed
4.2(1) fixed
4.1(3) broken in base version but fixed in all subsequent SR and devpacks.
4.1(3) SR and devicepacks are available here to registered Cisco.com users:

Default phone loads per CM version are documented in the Cisco Unified
Communications Manager Software Compatibility Matrix located here:

The 7970's all seem to have all died right around the PST time of 4:00 pm which is when the GMT rollover to the 29th occurred. This is actually my best guess as to what the problem is and given the history these phones have with dates and times, I really think that could be it.
