[cisco-voip] CDR Processing - inhouse vs outsourced

If you do perform the upgrade in place please have a set of hard
drives pulled to revert back to. The biggest advantage to upgrading
on a new server is that you can always power up the old one in case
something goes wrong.

Since you are moving from Windows to Linux it definitely involves an
OS reimage, though it does import data during install, not after. If
you've been through a 3.2 to 3.3 (or later) upgrade it is very similar.

the export functions.

As far as the upgrades are concerned, you'd have to consult the
hardware/software compatibility matrix. I don't see why if you had
supported hardware and software you couldn't do the upgrade in place.

Are you saying that 6.X will have the same CDR capability that our
current 4.1 has?

One other quick question: is 6.X an upgrade that can be performed on
the same hardware or is it a completely fresh install where you
import user data after the new server is built?

The cutting of CDRs is still there....it's the processing that is,
well, lacking, in any version. I guess it all depends on what you are
trying to do.

If you are charging one flat rate for all LD, then it works fine. But
there are different costs associated with overseas and overseas
mobile phones. A true CDR/billing package will be able to load LD
rates and carrier country codes for land/mobile phones and bill
accordingly.

Why is CDR no longer part of Call Manager in 6.X ??? It works fine
in 4.1.

There are plenty of outsourcing services that deal with much more
delicate information than CDRs. Offshore help centres having access
to customer databases with creditcard, healthcare, financial, etc.
That being said, I'm sure part of the contract with any off-shore
company will indicate the confidentiality of the data they are
dealing with.

Of course, in the event a company goes bankrupt, all bets are off.
The creditor will be able to sell everything, regardless of privacy
policy in place. ;)

Lelio,

What are your thoughts about the security/confidentiality issues
surronding the transmission of the CDR files?

There's been a lot of talk about CDR processing applications on the
list as of late. I'm not too sure how much they cost or the amount of
time that is required to set them up and maintain, however, something
you should consider is outsourcing. We have been doing this for a
number of years and find the service that we get to be efficient,
cost effective and very flexible. We send them data every week
and they provide us custom bills every billing period (about once a
month). We then have an application in house that seperates the bills
and emails them out as well as automatically making journal entries
from the departments telecom budget.

If you are in the midst of looking at CDR processing applications, I
would strongly suggest giving these guys a call to see if they can
provide you with a service at a reasonable cost. I've already called
them and they are ready to serve! I was ensured that they can provide
service to US customers without any issues.
