[cisco-voip] Qs: G/K Technology Prefix

Thanks for the reply
I am confused regarding tech-prefix functionality. For example if we have different sites in different cities. We can group gateways in site-1 with (say) tech-prefix 1# and tech-prefix 2# in site-2.
Is this the right concept for Technology Prefixes?
For local call the gateway will be able to handle calls locally since the dial-peer will be there. But for call that are not local how do we need to define dial-peers as well?
Regards,
Khalid

Hi,
You can do both, but not at
the same time.
Normally you would want
your gateway to register his tech-prefix, but some gateways will not support it
and then you will need to set it up manually.

Syed - When you configure the technology prefix, they
must agree and be configured on both the gateway and the
gatekeep.

Prefix
In cisco press ebook Cisco Voice G/W and G/K, the author says:
{section: E.164 Number Resolution}
1- The
Tech Prefix is optional feature.
2- To use technology
prefixes:
Assign
the gateway a technology
prefix You
can do this on the gateway so that the prefix is registered
with the
gatekeeper as part of the RRQ. You can also configure
it statically on
the gatekeeper so that the technology prefix is associated
with the gateway IP
address.
This identifies the technology (type,
class, or pool) that the
gatekeeper associates with this particular gateway
when performing call routing. This means that I can assign the Tech Prefix
either on G/W or the GK?
But in
the next chapter (17) section: configuring basic g/k functionality, it include
the Tech Prefix both on G/K and G/W.
Is it mandatory for configure tech
prefix on both g/w and g/k?
Can any one explain?

Khalid
